Hepatitis C

Hepatitis C is RNA virus, transmission is mainly parenteral and contaminated needles and sharps.


Diagnostic Criteria

 

  • Fever

  • Jaundice

  • Plus serological evidence of hepatitis C infection

 

Investigation

  • HCV antibody

  • HCV RNAPCR.

 

Treatment

  • Pharmacological treatment

  • Pegylated interferon (Peg-IFN) 180 mcg/1.73 m² sub cutaneous (SC) once a week with daily Ribavirin 15 mg/kg/day 12 hourly for 48 weeks.

 

Note:

  • Refer children with serological evidence of Hepatitis B infection to the next level with adequate expertise and facility
