Malignant disease conditions

Cancer is a term covering a wide range of malignant diseases, which contribute significantly to the overall morbidity and mortality of people worldwide. In this section you will learn about common malignant conditions in Africa and their management

Multiple Myeloma

Multiple Myeloma

Multiple myeloma is a malignant plasma cell disorder characterized by clonal proliferation of plasma cells within the bone marrow, leading to the production of monoclonal immunoglobulin (M protein) or free light chains. The disease causes end-organ damage through bone destruction, bone marrow failure, renal impairment, hypercalcaemia, and immunodeficiency.

Nasal Cavity and Paranasal Sinus Cancer

Nasal Cavity and Paranasal Sinus Cancer

These are tumors arising from nasal cavity and the four paired paranasal sinuses (frontal, ethmoid, maxillary, and sphenoid).

Carcinoma of the prostate

Carcinoma of the prostate

Carcinoma of the prostate is the most common malignant tumour of the prostate gland and one of the leading cancers affecting men worldwide. Approximately 95% of prostate cancers are adenocarcinomas arising from the glandular epithelium of the prostate.

Aggressive T-cell lymphomas

Aggressive T-cell lymphomas

Aggressive T-cell lymphomas are a heterogeneous group of mature T-cell and natural killer (NK)-cell neoplasms characterized by rapid progression, aggressive clinical behavior, and generally poorer outcomes compared with most B-cell lymphomas. These malignancies are relatively rare and are often diagnosed at advanced stages with extranodal involvement.
