Malignant disease conditions

Cancer is a term covering a wide range of malignant diseases, which contribute significantly to the overall morbidity and mortality of people worldwide. In this section you will learn about common malignant conditions in Africa and their management

Cancer of the Ovary

Cancer of the Ovary

Ovarian cancer is a malignant neoplasm arising from the ovary and is one of the most lethal gynecological cancers. Epithelial tumors account for approximately 90% of all ovarian malignancies. Due to the deep anatomical location of the ovaries and the absence of specific early symptoms, most patients present with advanced disease.

Choriocarcinoma

Choriocarcinoma

Choriocarcinoma is a highly malignant form of gestational trophoblastic neoplasia characterized by aggressive trophoblastic proliferation and early hematogenous spread. It may occur following a hydatidiform mole, spontaneous abortion, ectopic pregnancy, or term pregnancy.

Hydatidiform mole

Hydatidiform mole

Hydatidiform mole is a form of gestational trophoblastic disease characterized by abnormal proliferation of trophoblastic tissue and swelling of chorionic villi. It results from abnormal fertilization and is classified into two main types: complete hydatidiform mole and partial hydatidiform mole.

Cervical cancer

Cervical cancer

Cancer of the uterine cervix is a malignant disease arising from the cervical epithelium and is strongly associated with persistent infection by high-risk types of human papillomavirus (HPV). It is one of the most common cancers affecting women, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

Endometrial Cancer

Endometrial Cancer

Endometrial cancer is a malignant neoplasm arising from the endometrial lining of the uterus and is one of the most common gynecological malignancies in women. It predominantly affects postmenopausal women, although it may occur in younger women with specific risk factors.
